Baton Rouge General Bluebonnet - A Part of the Baton Rouge Community

It’s hard to think of Baton Rouge General now and not picture the Bluebonnet campus but not that long ago, it didn’t exist. In the early ‘90s, Bluebonnet Boulevard was all grass and marshland, there was no mall, no Perkins Rowe and no traffic, but the community was beginning to grow and move this way. Ten years prior to the move, hospital leadership recognized the need for a satellite hospital in this fast-growing southeastern part of the parish and that vision became a reality in September 1994 when the Bluebonnet campus first opened its doors.

During the design phase of this new campus, BRG got input from hundreds of employees and former patients. The hospital plans were down sized, and it opened with an urgent care setting but no ER. In the almost 28 years since its opening, we have expanded the hospital over nine times and tens of thousands of patients have come here for some of life’s most important moments. We continue to expand and adapt to the ever-changing and growing needs of the community and offer opportunities for a wide range of services and specialties for our doctors, nurses, and staff.

The most recent additions to the Bluebonnet campus include the Regional Burn Center, Center for Health, added six additional outpatient operating suites, Comprehensive Care Clinic, which offers multi-disciplinary care for patients with chronic conditions such as diabetes and heart disease and a new infusion clinic as part of a partnership with Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center.

Baton Rouge General also takes pride in being a part of this community by hosting large free community events on our campus throughout the year. Two of our favorites include our Holiday Lights display featuring thousands of twinkling lights, singing Christmas trees and larger than life holiday decor and our Pop-Up Pink Pumpkin Patch featuring over 5,000 free pink porcelain doll pumpkins grown as a symbol of breast cancer awareness. These events create memorable experiences for families each year including our own staff and their families.

“I have been at Bluebonnet since the day the doors opened. It has been fun to see the way this campus has grown and changed over the years. I look forward to seeing what we have to offer for our patients 10 years down the road.” - Becky Davis, ICU Nurse, employed at BRG for 38 years
